Yesterday, I watched a magazine programme on TV (Richard & Judy Show) whereby they were interviewing and reporting on an apparently new 'craze' for real baby-dolls. These are new born babies as dolls manufactured as realistically as possible: and when being held by a mother are very convincing likenesses to real babies. They are also weighted realistically.
These are bought by women who need a baby to look after etc., take them out in prams and so forth.
There was a grandmother whose real grandson had emigrated to Australia, who ordered one to look like him as a baby. When it arrived, she was delighted - and eagerly took it to show her husband (the grandfather). He complained and said he couldn't handle it. It reminded him, he said, of something on a mortuary slab!
Apparently, however, they're thinking of manufacturing them with warmth capabilities!
As dolls, however, they are remarkably well done and extremely realistic, according to Judy.
But aren't dolls meant to look like dolls, not like babies?
BTW: I call Richard & Judy by their real names: Punch & Judy.
